General Motors Agreement

Nile University (NU) and General Motors Holdings LLC (GM), USA signed a Master Agreement on March 6th, 2010, that establishes a strong relationship in cutting-edge scientific research. Representing NU at the signing, Dr. Tarek Khalil, President and Provost, and Dr. Hazem Ezzat V.P. for Research. From GM Dr. Nady Boules, Director of GM R&D’s Electrical and Controls Integration and Mr. Rajeev Chaba, CEO and Managing Director of GM Egypt.

Under the agreement GM will provide funding for NU’s faculty and research assistants to perform research of special interest to GM and the scientific community at large. The agreement also brings together researchers from both organizations, another milestone in GM’s long history of supporting intellectual diversity and good citizenship. On NU’s part the agreement is one more step in NU’s participation with the global technical community in the development of new knowledge and valuable intellectual property.

On the same occasion, the first of the research projects under the agreement was launched. The project under the title “Reliable and Secure Vehicular Networks” will be conducted by Professor Hesham El-Gamal NU Research Fellow, and Drs. Amr El-Kei, Tamer El-Batt, and Moustafa Youssef, Assistant professors at NU. NU’s research faculty will be assisted by some dozen research assistants from NU’s Wireless Intelligent Networks Center (WINC) who will closely work with their GM counterparts in the Electrical and Controls Integration Research Laboratory at GM’s Global R&D Center.
