Mariam El Wakeel
Ms. El Wakeel joined Nile University as an English Language Instructor this Fall. She received her B.A. in English and Comparative Literature with a minor in psychology from the American University in Cairo in 1977 and her M.A. in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) in 1983 from the American University in Cairo.
While working on her masters' degree in TEFL, she received a teaching fellowship and completed her M.A. in 1983. As a fellow she taught reading skills, study skills and grammar to undergraduate students in the English Language Institute (ELI), and taught general English courses, ESP courses, test preparation courses in the Division of Public Service/AUC.
Ms. El Wakeel has been teaching English in different institutions and programs for 27 years. She taught different levels and skills, developed materials and tests, wrote curricula and syllabi. She also worked as an administrator managing English language programs in the School of Continuing Education at the American University in Cairo.
Ms. El Wakeel worked in different language programs at the American University in Cairo. She taught in the ELTTP/USAID program run by AUC (2000 – 2004). She taught different courses (test preparation, ESP, general English) in the School of Continuing Education (SCE) at the American University in Cairo. She taught academic reading and writing to freshman students in the undergraduate program at AUC (2005 – 2009). She joined King Saud University (KSA) in Riyadh in 1992 (1992 – 1999) where she taught general English courses, coordinated reading courses and assisted in administrative work.
