Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Program
TRANSPORTATION: AN ENGINE FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Nile University hold the International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Tarek Kamel and H.E. Eng. Mohamed Mansour.
Nile University has announced plans to launch the first Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) program in Egypt, to begin in March 2008. The program is an integrated academic and research experience to build the competency that will institutionalize ITS as part of Egypt's future and economic reality. The ITS program offers a Master of Engineering and a Master of Science and is offered in cooperation with the Center for Advanced Transportation Systems Simulation at the University of Central Florida, USA.
ITS is an integration of information technology, telecommunications, rational analysis, synthesis, and management tools, transportation planning, and transportation engineering. ITS impacts the automotive sector, roads and highways, public transport (including urban, air, rail), traffic engineering, and freight movement and operations. Intelligent Transportation Systems is the foundation for enhancing productivity, trade and commerce, safety and security, and innovative products and services.
The Center for Advanced Transportation Systems Simulation at the University of Central Florida applies computer simulation, driving simulators, virtual reality, wireless communication, and other advanced technologies to enhance planning, design, operation, management, and safety of transportation systems.
Candidates for the Master of ITS include those who hold a Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering, or related disciplines. The M.Sc. program includes a thesis and non-thesis option. Students can choose a track in ICT-enabled Intelligent Transportation Systems. The focus of this track is to acquire the skills needed for integration of these technologies into various transportation platforms, with a view toward maximizing platform efficiency and significantly enhancing safety. Alternatively, students can choose a track leading to competency in transportation system planning and management with focus on modern methodologies. The program is also intended to introduce the student to related principles in business and management of technology.
